The R1 ST is a vintage-style stereo ribbon microphone capable of extraordinarily lifelike capture of group vocals/choir, drums, horn sections, string sections and more. 

Its two ribbons are arranged in a classic Blumlein configuration, creating a vivid capture of your sound sources as well as their acoustic space. R1 ST delivers a unique, natural sound that has been available in classical microphones like the RCA 44 and 77 that are still used to make high quality recordings to this day, after over 80 years.

Like all ribbon microphones, each side of R1 ST provides a figure-8 polar pattern with exceptional side rejection. R1 ST captures every transient accurately in classic ribbon tone; expect a gentle top-end roll-off that can prevent cymbals from sounding too harsh during drum tracking—the mic’s transformer-balanced output further shapes the captured tones into warm, punchy territory. 

Either side of the R1 ST can be used as a mono microphone, and its surprisingly high SPL capability (160 dB!) make it useful for drums… not always the case on ribbon mics.
