The R2 mkII is a vintage-style ribbon microphone for the modern age. It features an ultra-wide figure-eight pickup pattern that captures a full-bodied, mellow tone with a bit of high-end roll-off and exceptional side rejection. Its weighty proximity response allows you to add some heft to your sources through close positioning, if desired.
Its unique, atmospheric tonal character is particularly flattering for horns; you won’t need to EQ any shrill top-end in post. Its extremely high SPL capability of 137 dB makes it a safe choice for loud guitar amps. And its fast, natural transient reproduction makes it a fantastic choice for drum overheads; mono or stereo. It also shines on acoustic guitar.
The R2 mkII excels in rejecting mechanical noise. While it includes a metal shock mount, its ribbon and magnet assembly is also internally shock-mounted, further cutting down on handling noise and rumble.
